Battleship Potemkin (1925)
Directed by: Sergei M. Eisenstein
Starring: Aleksandr Antonov, Vladmir Barskey, and Grigori Aleksandrov
Recommendation: definitely rent if not buy
Rating: 8.0

Battleship Potemkin is a silent film about a Russian navy crew who realize they are being treated poorly on their ship and decide to retaliate against the officers resulting in one sailors death. When the ships comes abroad the town folk are enraged and empowered by the sailors death so much so that they too begin to riot in the town which results in local law enforcement to take action, BRUTAL action. These cops don’t fuck around they stomp kids shoot civilians stab women and all of that just to maintain order. The Interesting part of this movie is not just itself but it’s history, for it’s time it was a very graphic film and was banned from many countries and certain scenes were cut and re-cut in certain countries like Germany. Ownership of the movie was also debated as the movie kept changing from theater to theater. I really enjoyed the special features and the movie itself has a powerful message this is one movie you shouldn’t miss out on.
